Violet & the Sun

Explore the Enigmatic and Lush Music

Violet and the Sun's music is so original,
with the extensive synth work, trippy sounds,
orchestral instrumentation, playful mallet parts,
and lush vocal arrangements—all done with a pop sensibility.

(Tear a Hole in) This Plastic Night

Deep in my bones there’s a fear
Part of me wants to make it real
How do you shut this thing off?
How do you find where it starts?

This world I know is tearing at the seams
The fabric split, the hologram blew steam,
Cartoon shrapnel flew across the screen,
Chroma bled like technicolor dreams

I try to integrate it all until I cave
Retreating to the wine and cheese parade
Safety in the putrid and inane
Safety in the stench of the insane

But a tiny green man in a walkin’ stick suit
Is parked in front, above the light on my stoop
He reminds me of that June bug in the fire light
What a tiny little powerhouse of shimmer might
Yeah, I bet she could tear a hole in this plastic night
Yeah, I bet she could tear a hole in this plastic night
Yeah, I bet we could tear a hole in this plastic night
I know we could tear a whole in this plastic night

Oh, this world seems gone
Washed away inside this song
Where the river meets the sea
I can drift into what’s real
Tear open the night
We’re waiting here

Deep in my heart there’s a spear
Part of me knows that it’s real
How do I pull this thing out?
How do I pierce through the doubt?

This dark side of myself makes no sense
I’ve gotta stop pretending that it does
I think I’m right but do I even care?
I can’t even feel my own heart

Oh, this world seems gone
Washed away inside this song
Where the river meets the sea
I can drift into what’s real

Then a dragonfly whizzes right past my ear
He won’t let me forget that he’s here
He reminds me of that vision in the firelight
What a beautiful imagining of grace and might
There’s a world beyond this muddy, garish, silly sight
Yeah, I know we could tear a whole in this plastic night
Yeah, I know we could tear a whole in this plastic night
There’s a world beyond this muddy, garish, silly sight
Yeah, I know we could tear a whole in this plastic night
I know we could tear a hole in this plastic night
Yeah, I know we could tear a whole in this plastic night
I know we could tear a whole in this plastic night

Amaurot

Test of time inside a rhyme
Of riddles and of lore
We stand behind the unlocked door
Just waiting for you to turn it
You cried out for help, we showed
But your eyes were too full of tears to see us

A place so dark no one could hear
But you would not be neglected
By the man in ironclad,
The witness stand protected
Inside the walls of time and space,
Oh, the riptide is rejected

Will you drown or swim to shore and
Take your soul back, off the saddle?
Or will you let that wild horse
Run off, drag off, take off with your victory?
Shootin’ idle, sitting star
We wait for you to shine

Child of the future,
You have a heart of gold
What you imagine now
Is what will matter most
Child of the future
Stop the nothingness
Look where beauty lands
To bring Amaurot back

You are the one, you are the one who can save us
(Imagine the world that you really want) x2

They hand out hope for sorrow
And paint the streets in gold

The hills of red are full of dead
The heart within is green with sin
The upside down will swallow you,
If you choose to let it win
The nothing world will fill your mind
With visions we’ve rejected

Will you fall or jilt the sight
Of gore and fame and folly?
In the smear campaign of life is grace,
Ooh, but will you ignore it?
The path within is full of burs,
We’ll pull them off at the altar

A countess lion full of fight
From way beyond the grave
Sets the table now before you,
For the man inside the cave
Shootin’ idle, sitting star
We wait for you to shine

Child of the future,
You have a heart of gold
What you imagine now
Is what will matter most
Child of the future
Stop the nothingness
Look where beauty lands
To bring Amaurot back

You are the one, you are the one who can save us
Imagine the world that you really want
Child of the future
You are the one, you are the one who can save us
Imagine the world that you really want
Child of the future
You are the one, you are the one who can save us
Imagine the world that you really want

All I Am is Love

So, who am I now?
When I’m not who I’ve been,
Who I will be?
I am not where I came from
And not where I’m going
Not who I made up just to please everyone
I am more than a body,
The son of the sun
(Who Am I?)
I’m more than a group and there’s no group,
That could hold all I am
I’m love that came from love to go back
This is all that I am, love
A wind in a valley of myrtle,
Breathing fragrance in space
To the creatures around
A stream of the ocean that gives life to all
That needs nothing to love,
Gives and takes not
Just love unto love

A holy kiss of deepest love
Pressed to the mouth of one above
A breath of the creative force
Infusing life with form

Love is all I am
From love to love
A breath of life in song
From love to love x3
(Who Am I?)

Drops of heaven in song
That return back
To when nothing need said
Love that came from love to go back
This is all that I am now

Love is all I am,
From love to love
(This is all that I will be)
From love to love
(All that I have been even when I can’t see)
From love to love
A breath of life in song
(Even when I forgot love is all that I am)
From love to love
(A holy kiss of deepest love)
From love to love
Pressed to the mouth of one above
(Who am I?)
A breath of the creative force
Infusing life with form
(Who am I?)
Drops of heaven in song that return back,
To when nothing need said

To Watch You Grow Old

Pretty done with travelin’ the globe
Pretty done with goin’ out to shows
Pretty done with workin’ on my bod’
Pretty done with workin’ on my head

For you I’d travel
Around the whole
world I’d do more yoga,
Give you somethin’ pretty to hold
I’d make your favorites
Fill them with passion
I’d go to shows to see you smile,
To watch you grow old

I would stick around to see you laugh
I would stay on earth to catch your breath
There's not much that I still want to do
But for you, I'd do it all again

For you I’d travel
Around the whole world
I’d do more yoga,
Give you somethin’ pretty to hold
I’d make your favorites
Fill them with passion
I’d go to shows to see you smile,
To watch you grow old

Violet and the Sun

I'd guide you through madness
Like a flame in the dark
Like a bloom on a cactus
Like the love of a child
I'd love you in starlight
Love you in daylight
Through mighty rainstorms
And ever blue skies

We could lasso
All the dragons
With our love
And ride on the moon
To Violet and the Sun X2

I see you there,
Trapped in clouds
Before nightfall
Pink, through the sky,
Romance caught
Heaven breaks through

I, I wait here, for your love
Will you find me?
Here, through the storm
I shine true
I will find you

I'll wait for forever
For stars to rejoin
For earth to meet heaven
For light to sound notes
I'll breathe in your each word
And listen to spaces
Keep time with your breath
And rest in your stillness

We could lasso
All the dragons
With our love
And ride on the moon
To Violet and the Sun X2

My love, won’t you come meet me here
My love, won’t you come willingly
My love, won’t you come meet me here
My love, won’t you come willingly
My love, won’t you come meet me here
My love, won’t you come willingly
To heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate

Stardust

Dearest one, do you think you can tell,
True love from the well,
What’s real from your pride?
Can you tell when the tamer, that dark lust for comfort,
Whips you back to familiar, grips your soul with his game?
Do you get a strange chill when that old ghoul, he enters?
Stops your heart through suggestion
Guards your shame with his charm?
Did he get you to trade in your best gifts for sand?
Lure you into his web?
Fill your glove with his hand?
Laughing at what you could be
Lays your dreams down
Stabs the heart of your true love,
Then grins his way through her funeral

If I could, love, then I would free you
Let you see your true potential
I’d spread you like stardust
Through skies of endless day

Oh, my friend, you don’t fit through that door
Please don’t shrink for that hall
Please don’t drown in that well
Will you tear down those guards now?
And turn from pleasure that traps you?
Walk through fire that burns you?
Take off mask that feels safe?
Won’t you spill all your secrets
And lay your prize down
Trade your house for the heavens
Swap your cave for cosmos?
Will you be breath of heaven
In every cell, every atom?
Can you become the heartbeat of all the life there is?

If I could, love, then I would free you
Let you see your true potential
I’d spread you like stardust
Through skies of endless day

Constant

I don’t know what
You feel for me
But I know you
Make me better

I don’t know what
You need from love
But I’ll give you
All the best I have

Oh, constant
How you polish me
Helps me stretch higher
I burn brighter

Oh, my constant
You command the best of me
Oh, my constant
Help me find my destiny

Let’s try to fly
Pull it through
As one we can
Set us free x2

If we make it
With each other
We could touch the
Hem of heaven

When I’m lost I
Find my way by
Talkin’ to you
You unlock all my love

Constant
How you polish me
Helps me me stretch higher
I burn brighter

If I could hold the world as you
I could part the veil, and walk through
Touch the other side ‘til we got lighter
We go higher

Oh, my constant
You command the best of me
Oh, my constant
Help me find my destiny

George and Martha

When they met, the stars spun into day
Spilling secrets 'til the sun came up
It seemed every pain and shame could be erased now,
‘Cause George loved her despite all he could see
Martha brushed off flaws he wore on his ripped suit sleeve
The laughs they shared made right their tragedy

But George and Martha loved each other
Underneath it all
Though they wasted their time here fightin'
And they shed all those years dry cryin'
If you stand by their grave, you can hear their love
Oh, their love
Their love
Sad, sad, sad

In her kiss he'd taste all his missed meals
And in his eyes she saw black skies turn blue
But then her lips turned into something colder
And his eyes were soaked in storms of prison hues
The warmth she held was locked beneath the surface
All his laughs contained the stone he never threw

Guilty over love they lost
Sick from memories swallowed down
They vowed to drop their words and fight in stares
Now the life best friends had built
Was a bullring without any fans
Their hearts became the taunts of red that
Their horns would spear without a thought

But George and Martha loved each other
Underneath it all
Though they wasted their time here fightin'
And they shed all those years dry cryin'
If you stand by their grave, you can hear their love
Oh, their love
Their love
Sad, sad, sad

The Ruby Song

Some days I wonder what of me they'll remember
Will this earth be better off because of me?
I want to do more than act out human drama
I want to leave a path from my heart to heaven

Can I be that brave, can I be that bold,
Leaving selfish things behind?
When the perfect comes, and the partial goes
Will I serve them like a man?

But I am tryin’ in my own way
To find a path to love and faith
(A path to love and faith)
I’m tryin’
I will
Learn to sing along
To the Ruby Song

To the Ruby Song

I gave up when my idols all had to failed me
They were as full of flaws and falls as me
Now I can either give up, or find my own way
Carry the torch of those who came before

Can I be that brave, can I be that bold,
Fight the battles others lost?
I refuse to think this is all I am,
Just another human mess

But I am tryin’ in my own way
To find a path to love and faith
(A path to love and faith)
I’m tryin’
I will
Learn to sing along
To the Ruby Song

About

Violet and the Sun is an ethereal pop band whose musical inspirations are as enigmatic and original as they are lush and eclectic.

Bandleader, singer-songwriter and producer-engineer April White has relied on playing the piano and singing to express herself in private most of her life, as if writing in a diary to find herself and revive her spirit. She brings her inner life to the foreground in this iconic and eponymous, breakthrough album, "Violet and the Sun."

April called upon several friends, collaborators and skilled musicians to contribute to the colorful soundscapes the album explores, who journeyed to her rustic log cabin studio for recording sessions.

The album would not be complete without the stylings, inspirations, ideas and talents of Aaron Day, Jon Margulies and Christine Bucher—or the finesse of award-winning composer, producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist Ben Leinbach, whose final touches and mixing/mastering skills took each song to a new level.

Living on an acreage near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon with her beloved dogs, cats and dwarf goats provides April with an endless source of joy and wonder. The miles of uninterrupted pinyon pines by day and countless stars by night give her a sense of interconnectedness and place in the universe, which is intimately reflected in this break-out album.
